After a disastrous first year in San Antonio, Dean Chynoweth has been fired as head coach of the Rampage. Chynoweth has been in the Avalanche organization since June 2012 when he was hired to coach the Lake Erie Monsters. Chynoweth failed to lead his team to the playoffs in each of the four seasons he served as head coach of Colorado’s AHL affiliates. He leaves the organization with an overall wins record of 135-128-0-41 (0.511 win percentage).

Chynoweth has come under fire throughout his time as head coach for his inability to get the most out of Avalanche prospects. A recent interview by the Eurolanche with Croatian winger Borna Rendulic revealed some alarming details about Chynoweth’s reputation with the players in San Antonio. When asked about what it was like playing in the AHL, Rendulic said,

All together, I don’t think I developed how I wanted. In the NHL, when you even have a practice you get better. But in the AHL it is not so good level. When I was coming over (to the AHL) I heard a lot of stories but I wanted to see it on myself. I was disappointed overall with everything. Because when I was playing in Finland, everything was taking care about. Everything was much professional. In the AHL, you are just playing there. You just feel nobody cares about you. Nobody cares about your development or how you are going to develop. Nobody teach me. We had like those development guys like David Oliver and Brett Clark. When they come over it was nice because they were teaching us, but our coaches didn’t teach anyone. There were so many young players lost their confidence. They couldn’t make the play even when they are good players. It just shouldn’t be like that. It was too much negativity around when I was there.

Neither the Avalanche nor the Rampage have released an official statement about the firing.
