The stars have been out at Denver Broncos training camp.
As camp continues, one thing’s held true: the sidelines have been full of former players showing up to watch the team practice. On Tuesday, Brandon Stokley, Chris Kuper and Joel Dreessen were there. Thursday brought March Schlereth out to Dove Valley. On Saturday, it was Terrell Davis, as part of the NFL Network crew who were reporting live.
Davis is one of the greatest Broncos players in the hallowed history of the franchise. TD was the NFL MVP in 1998, Super Bowl XXXII MVP, a 2,000-yard rusher during a single season and one of the greatest postseason running backs the NFL’s ever seen.
On Saturday, David Bruton had a chance to talk to Davis in Dove Valley, instagraming a picture with TD which included some interesting words.
Including that, when he’s done playing, the Broncos should retire No. 30 in honor of Davis.
There are only three numbers retired by the Broncos currently, and one of them came out of retirement recently. Those are No. 7 (John Elway), No. 44 (Floyd Little) and No. 18 (Frank Tripucka).
Does Davis’ number deserve to be retired? It’s an interesting idea, indeed.
One thing’s for sure, the Ring of Famer deserves to be in the Professional Football Hall of Fame, but his lack of longevity seems to be keeping him out. At least for now.
Ian St. Clair wrote on the Broncos lack of Hall of Famers this morning, here. Tonight, the 2015 class will be inducted. Davis was a finalist, but still remains on the outside looking in.
