BOULDER – Jaylon Jackson has had an interesting journey to the University of Colorado as an early enrollee. He didn’t have any junior or senior tape to show teams, due to two torn ACLs, but that didn’t matter to many college coaches as he accumulated nine offers from schools in the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12 and others.

The three-star wide receiver is out of Cedar Hill High School in the recruiting hotspot of Dallas, TX. Jackson took a lot of visits to different schools in the south but once he visited Colorado, he knew CU was the school for him.

“CU was so different,” Jackson explained. “I felt like the coaching staff was more together, more committed. I like that a lot, you know coach Chev (Darrin Chiaverini) and coach (Darian) Hagan they’re good guys and I really believed in what they were saying. That’s what brought me to CU is I really believed what they said.”

The new facilities at Champions Center, like they have with so many other recruits, played a big role in bringing Jackson to Boulder.

“CU’s facilities are dope,” Jackson remarked. “They’re so different than other schools I’ve been to, like Texas Tech and Kansas and Oklahoma State.”

The speedster has been on campus for a few weeks having been enrolled for the spring semester and has been thoroughly enjoying it so far.

“It’s going good,” Jackson said. “I love it here. It’s always snowing, it’s always cold. But I love it here a lot. It’s fun getting to work in the facilities and be around my friends and teammates.”

Jackson is currently rooming with Isaiah Lewis who is a fellow member of the 2017 recruiting class but plays on the other side of the ball.

“It’s fun,” Jackson said about rooming with Lewis. “Isaiah is so funny, he’s always got me laughing all the time.”

The 5-foot-9, 184-pounder has been clocked running a 4.5 second 40-yard dash and a 10.55 second 100-meter sprint. That kind of speed profiles great for a slot receiver, like Devin Ross, and that’s the exact position Jackson plans to play for the Buffaloes.

“I get the mismatch,” Jackson said about playing in the slot. “I’m either playing against a big linebacker that’s kind of slow and can’t move or the safety. I like that mismatch a lot.”

When asked if he’s ever matched up with his new roommate Jackson replied, “No, but I think we’ll be going up against each other pretty soon in practice. It’s going to be some rough times, and some good times too.”
