CU Buffs Top 20: No. 7 Jeromy Irwin

Over the next three weeks, BSN Buffs will be breaking down our top 20 Colorado Buffaloes entering the fall of 2017. These rankings were voted on by BSN Buffs editor Jake Shapiro and staff Chase Howell and Sam Weaver.

For those that are just finding out now, yes, Jeromy Irwin is still on the Colorado Buffaloes. Irwin is entering his sixth season with Colorado and there’s no place where experience is valued higher than the offensive line.

The big man from Texas has a huge influence on the offensive line’s overall production with both his position (left tackle) and his role as a leader. Irwin was voted as a team captain for the second consecutive season.

If Steven Montez is going to trust anyone to protect his blindside, it’s the veteran Irwin. He’s started 25 games at left tackle for CU and has appeared in 35.

Last season, coming off an ACL injury, might have been the best one yet for the 6-7, 290-pound lineman. He played the second most snaps of anyone on the team and was able to earn himself second-team All-Pac-12 honors for his efforts last season, for the first time in his career.

In the state of Colorado, where so often radio hosts are debating on who should be the starting left tackle for a certain football team, there are no debates in Boulder where they have a guy with tons of experience, and the talent to go with it, protecting their quarterback’s blind side.
