Colorado Buffaloes defensive lineman Jordan Carrell has been drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. At pick 246 he was the fourth Buff taken in this year’s draft behind his defensive backs Tedric Thompson, Ahkello Witherspoon and future teammate in Dallas Chidobe Awuzie.

Their college coach Mike MacIntyre has some great connections in Dallas and it obviously paid off. For a school looking to make Texas part of their pipeline in recruiting, having two Buffs on their most rooted for football team isn’t going to hurt.

This also marks the first time since 1998 that the Buffs have had four defensive players selected in the same draft.

Carrell was a surprise pick as many though fellow trench mobers Jimmie Gilbert or Josh Tupou would go before him. But in his senior season  he was named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12. Over his career he played in 26 games with 25 starts in two seasons. Over those two years he had 6.5 sacks, 98 tackles (14.5 for losses), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 23 quarterback hurries and 10 third-down stops.

He dedicated his final collegiate season to his late father, Lawrence Carrell, who passed away almost a year ago from Saturday due to a  heart attack.

His 695 snaps played on the defensive side and 51 tackles were the most of any CU defensive lineman last year.
