The Colorado Buffaloes have snagged a talented new point guard for the 2017 season. Three-star McKinley Wright IV at six-feet, 185-pounds is highly acclaimed, being named Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball in 2017. Wright committed to Colorado Friday following a visit with the Buffs earlier this week.

He’s from Champlin Park, Minnesota and stands to fill a huge hole in head coach Tad Boyle’s lineup left by the departure of senior Derrick White. He joins a signing class already touted as Boyle’s best in his tenure with the Buffs. Rounding out a class that has Tyler Bey, Evan Battey, and Sand Creek High School standout D’Shawn Schwartz as well as foreign guard Lazar Nikolic.

Wright will be one of two Wrights on the Buffs as Namon Wright, following his transfer, becomes eligible to play next season. Namon is joined by Dallas Walton and Alexander Strating, who also sat out last season.

This huge group will look to replace four graduates, two transfers and George King, who has entered the NBA Draft without an agent and could be back.

McKinley was tabbed to goto Dayton but following Archie Miller’s departure to take the Indiana job earlier this month, Wright reopened his recruitment and received a release from the Flyers. He heard from schools like Baylor, Butler, Tennessee and Clemson, as well as schools that had offered him previously from all across the midwest.

Wright averaged 22.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.8 assists for Champlin Park this past season, while earning Minnesota Star Tribune All-Metro Player of the Year honors. He led his high school team to the Class 4A state title game, where they lost.
