CU Board of Regents unanimously approves MacIntyre extension

DENVER – Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntyre’s $16.25 million contract extension has officially been approved. The University announced on Thursday that the Board of Regents unanimously gave the green light on the deal that keeps him at CU through 2021.

Despite there being nine Regents on the board, it ended up being a  8-0 vote. Regent Linda Shoemaker chose not to participate.

Financially, the terms of the deal are the same as they were in February, with the addition of  language regarding new training and reporting responsibilities.

“I appreciate the confidence in me the Board of Regents demonstrated by approving this extension,” MacIntyre said in a release from the school. “I look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of our student-athletes in the classroom and community and on the football field.”

The contract was originally signed in February, but it’s approval was tabled by the Board of Regents amidst domestic violence allegations against MacIntyre’s former assistant coach Joe Tumpkin and the head coach’s involvement in the case.

Earlier this week, the Board of Regents gathered to discuss and review detailed reports regarding the Tumpkin case and determined MacIntyre was innocent of any ill intent. The head coach will receive a letter of reprimand and be required to donate $100,000 to domestic violence awareness.
