FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Colorado State football will not be kicking off the season this weekend after all. The Mountain West Conference announced on Tuesday that Saturday’s home opener versus New Mexico has been cancelled due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 virus in Bernalillo County.
“In accordance with state guidelines, the University of New Mexico is unable to participate in the scheduled football game on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Colorado State University. Therefore, the Mountain West is canceling the game and declaring it a no contest. There is no plan to reschedule the game.”
As a result of the cancellation CSU is now only slated to face seven regular season opponents, beginning with Fresno State on Thursday Oct. Oct. 29.
