LAS VEGAS — We are a little over a week away from the general release of NCAA Football 25 and Ram Nation should be stoked to fire up the game after Wednesday’s release of the top 100 players.
With a 91 overall rating, Colorado State’s star wide receiver Tory Horton is tied with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for the highest rating in the Mountain West. Those two, along with Jacksonville State left guard Clay Webb and Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson are the only players from outside of power conferences to make the top 50 rankings. Horton and Jeanty are also the only MW players to even crack the top 100.
Coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, it’s unsurprising that Horton was ranked a top 5 wide receiver in the game. Considering the other four are widely projected as 2025 first round picks though — Travis Hunter (Colorado), Luther Burden III (Missouri), Tetaiora McMillan (Arizona) and Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State) — it’s a testament to Horton’s talent that he is revered that much on a national level.
At the Mountain West Media Days from the Circa Resort & Casino, an extremely humble Horton told reporters that he was pleasantly surprised by the love he was given by the team over at EA Sports.
“When I saw it, I didn’t believe it at first,” Horton said with a smile. “I was looking at it like this ain’t real, man… It’s just something that we’ve dreamed about since NCAA 14. You know, actually being in the game. And having the blessing to be top 100 is something that you can only dream about. I’m hyped to play the game now.”
Soft spoken at times and incredibly gracious, Horton is not known for making headlines with his words. He is however known for being a baller.
Horton already has 239 catches for 3,262 yards and 26 touchdowns in his collegiate career. He’s had at least five touchdown receptions in four consecutive seasons and he’s aiming to be the first CSU wide receiver to record three consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns.
With NCAA Football 25 being the first edition of the series released in over a decade, like most Ram fans, I was already excited to hop on the sticks and go to battle via the digital gridiron. Now that we know that Tory Horton was rightfully given the respect he deserves, though, I truly cannot wait to “Moss” opponents all day long with No. 14.
Horton has as much skill as any receiver to ever suit up in Fort Collins. It’s nice to see him get his flowers in a game that is about to take the nation by storm.
