While the Boarder War has built its tradition on the gridiron, it’s on the hardwood that the rivalry has lit the most sparks in recent years.

Last year saw a home and away domination by the Wyoming Cowboys over the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team. During those Border Wars, Wyoming won by a combined 25 points, with an 18 point whooping at home still looming large over CSU’s program.

This year, the Boarder War won’t come to Fort Collins until the very last home game of the season, which will also be Senior Night for the Green and Gold. The schedule release and realization of such an intense Senior Night led to this tweet from one of CSU’s most important players:

Emmanuel Omogbo’s tweet says it all really. After having lost to the Cowboys five of the last six matchups, Senior Night won’t be the cakewalk it was last season in an easy win against Air Force.

As reported in our schedule release the Rams and Cowboys will first face off in Laramie on February 15, with Senior Night being played on March 4, CSU’s second to last regular season game of the season.

During Eustachy’s tenure, the Rams have a 3-5 record against their rivals to the north, having lost the last four straight. A bounce back season is expected for the CSU hoops team after a down year, while Wyoming has lost their biggest weapon in Josh Adams; he scored 65 points combined against the Rams last season. As always in collegiate sports, a switch in the balance of power could be in the air with this rivalry.

With an 8-10 record in the Mountain West last season, beating direct rivals like Wyoming could be key in taking the jump to above .500 for Eustachy’s boys. The conference scheduling gods have given the Rams a tough task on Senior Night (especially for a team that’s lacking in senior players, Clavell and Omogbo aside) but one that should certainly get the juices flowing for all of Ram Nation, players and coaches first and foremost.
