If a college basketball team wants to be consistently competitive, there is no time to rebuild, only reload. For the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team, it seems they’ve found a gem in Emmanuel Omogbo.
Omogbo was named the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Star MVP last night after leading his D-I All-Stars to a 106-100 victory over the D-II and D-III All-Stars. Omogbo scored 18, a game-high, with six rebounds. He went 5-9 from the field and 8-8 from the charity stripe.

Omogbo is a 6’8” 210-pound power forward who will join the Rams this summer and will be able to compete for Larry Eustachy’s team this fall. He played as a freshman and sophomore for South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, the same place CSU found Stanton Kidd, who was a dominant force at times in Fort Collins. During the regular season, Omogbo averaged 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last year, playing in 35 contests and starting five. He comes to Colorado State with two years of eligibility remaining.
“Emmanuel has a great motor and plays extremely hard all the time, which is a skill in itself,” Eustachy said of the young man after his signing in November. “He played in a great junior college program and league, and we feel like can make an immediate impact.”
Considering last year’s starting forwards in J.J. Avila and Kidd are gone, Omogbo even has a chance to start in 2015-16.
