The approach to #1 at Eisenhower Blue

We have to start this review out by saying that the Eisenhower Blue course is one of our personal favorites here in our beautiful state of Colorado. We’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to play this course multiple times and it never disappoints.

The playability and difficulty of this course are almost directly related to the greens. While there are trees surrounding just about every single hole that you can find yourself in, getting the ball around Eisenhower isn’t all that difficult of a task. However, even if you’re a scratch golfer, there will be some 3 putts in your future if you don’t hit the ball close to the flag. There are a few huge elevation changes which make for some interesting shots, but janky isn’t a word that would be used to describe this course-  it’s an all around solid test of golf.

The views out at Eisenhower Blue earned a 4 flag review. One of the most unique things about both courses at Eisenhower is the fact that there is not a single house to be found on the course due to the fact it’s on the Air Force Academy. The only thing that kept it from a 5 flag rating is the fact that you don’t quite get the mountain views that some other courses provide in the area. Like many other courses in our state, the ideal time to play it is in the Fall with all the beautiful trees turning and potential snow capped foothills off in the distance.

The course conditions at Eisenhower always earn a 5 flag review from us. Given the fact that Eisenhower is owned by the US government, it definitely allows for a larger maintenance budget which directly correlates to the pristine condition the course is always in. The only time there is ever a blade of grass out of place is in the Fall months when all the pine trees are shedding their needles. On top of that, the greens at the blue course are some of the most challenging putting surfaces we’ve ever encountered in our golf careers. This course is regarded by us as one of the most well maintained facilities we have ever played in Colorado.

The Par 3 17th hole

We awarded Eisenhower 4 flags in the value category. The maximum you can pay to play the Blue course at any time and any day is $88. Given the great condition and challenging layout, $88 seems like a steal in comparison to other courses in the surrounding area. Having said that, it only earned 4 flags because a round of golf close to $100 is out of some peoples desired price range regardless of where you’re playing.

The facilities at Eisenhower are recently renovated and are also worthy of a 5 flag rating. Their new clubhouse is gorgeous and provides great views of the entire facility from the top of the hill. The driving range is massive and also provides mats for year round practice options. To top it off, the short game area just to the east of the 10th hole is the perfect secluded spot to go work on a variety of different wedge shots.

All in all, Eisenhower provides one of the better overall golf experiences in this region of the state and is well worth the drive down from Denver. It won’t leave you disappointed.

PS- Here’s a little local knowledge. The greens have a tendency to break heavily away from the west given that is built on the side of the foothills. if you’re putting towards the mountains, give it a little extra. If you’re putting away from the mountains, be careful, you could end up with a wedge in your hand for the next.
