TPC Colorado is one of Colorado’s newest golf courses and also one of the most challenging layouts in the state. It also plays host to an annual Korn Ferry Tour event which is the largest professional tournament in Colorado. It is not a fully public facility but they do offer limited open tee times, and if you’re lucky enough to snag one you won’t want to pass up the opportunity.

The playability out at TPC Colorado earned a well deserved 5 flag rating from us. One of our favorite aspects of TPC is that it has a little something for all abilities and offers a huge variety of teeing areas which can make it a lot more enjoyable for the casual golfer. From the tips it can play close to 8,000 yards (!!!) but don’t let that number scare you because it can also play as short as 4,150 and everywhere in between.

The difficulty out at TPC got a solid 4 flag rating from us. The course as a whole is fairly wide open with hardly any trees placed through the course. Having said that, most holes are very well bunkered from fairway to green and provide the majority of the teeth to this golf course. The bunkers out at TPC are not your standard muni’s bunkers, either. Most of them are massive and very deep. Missing a fairway or green out here can prove to be very penal. To top it all off, there is a handful of lakes scattered throughout the property that love to swallow up golf balls. As you would expect the greens are not too kind either, with plenty of speed and undulation. We truly believe this is one of the best tests of golf in our state.

The views out at TPC earned  five flags from us and personally are some of our favorite in all of Colorado. While the piece of land the golf course sits on is fairly flat (at least by Colorado’s standard), the property sits virtually right at the base of the foothills and provides mountain views that span from Fort Collins down to Boulder. There’s also quite a few working farms and ranches surrounding the course that give it a very rural feel which we tend to appreciate.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, TPC Colorado rivals any course in Colorado conditions wise and receives yet another five flag rating from us. You will be hard pressed to find a blade of grass or a grain of sand out of it’s place. The greens are still fairly firm given that the course is basically brand new but they will soften up a bit with time. Another advantage TPC has is it’s located in an area that gets a good amount of rainfall in the summertime compared to courses on the eastern slope where moisture is hard to come by.

The facilities out at TPC are also top notch as you can imagine. The clubhouse is a beautiful massive farm style building and the pro shop offers just about anything you’re looking for. The food and drinks are also reasonably priced which we will say is a welcome surprise. The range and short game area are huge and also very well maintained. It’s definitely the kind of place you could spend a whole afternoon eating, drinking, and practicing.

It’s challenging for us to give the value here a fair rating because only paid a fraction of the regular price to play it (one of the few perks of being a golf pro.) Tee times and green fees start around $175, making it a place that most people wouldn’t be able to play frequently. Having said that, it is a must play for anyone in the Denver-metro area and is worth saving up a bit of extra money to get out to once a season. We will go ahead and give the value a 2-flag rating considering any round of golf nearing $200 isn’t great value.

Overall, TPC Colorado has been a welcomed addition to the Colorado golf family and quickly earned it’s spot as one of the toughest tracks in the state. Grab a tee time, pack your patience, and leave your pride at the clubhouse. It’ll prove to be a much more enjoyable round that way.
