In Aurora, also the home of the Colorado Golf Association, Commonground is a great course for all ages and abilities. The playability/ difficulty of this course receives a 4 flag rating. A par 71 championship golf course is very playable for all levels of golfers. Tipping out at 7,461 yards and playing as short as 5,543 from the reds, this course provides a true test of golf. The greens are massive with ample undulation, but hitting it far right on just about every hole is a safe play. The links style course is truly a great golf experience with water, plenty of native, and a straightforward layout.
The views at Commonground get a 3 flag rating. There is an awesome view of the city of Denver from the 18th green, and some great native views from other holes like #4 and #5. Overall, the setting of this golf course in the middle of Aurora is nothing overly spectacular to look at.
The course conditions earned a 4 flag review. The greens at Commonground are well manicured. The fairways and rough have a few spots that could use some love, but overall I’ve found CG is in pretty good shape every time I’ve played the course. The greens are quite tricky to read but roll very true albeit a little slow compared to other courses.
The value of this course receives a 4 flag rating. If you are a Colorado Golf Association member or DNVR Golf member, the daily fee for 18 holes is $48. This doesn’t include a cart fee which is an additional $18. If you are just a daily fee player and not a member of the CGA or DNVR that price jumps up to $66 not including the $18 cart fee. $84 for an 18 hole round of golf is a little pricy for this track- thus not earning a 5 flag review. It definitely helps to become a DNVR Golf member- which includes a CGA Membership as well!
It was tough to rate the overall facility for Commonground, but I went with 5 flags. First, the good: Commonground has an incredible practice facility. From an incredible driving range with many intermediate targets, to the chipping/ bunker area, 2 large practice putting greens, and a full 9 hole par 3 course this facility is a great one to just pop in and practice without playing any actual championship golf holes. Now for the bad, and the reason I was hesitant to give it 5 stars: the pro shop and clubhouse definitely leave something to be desired. All crammed into one building with limited selections of merchandise and places to enjoy a meal after the round, this course truly puts golf first- which isn’t always a bad thing.
Overall, I would recommend making the trip to Commonground and enjoying a round. With gettable par 5s, fun par 3s, and challenging par 4s this is a must play course in the south Denver area of Colorado!
