CONFIRMED: Former CU Buff Josh Scott to play for Denver Nuggets in NBA Summer League

While first reported by Sportando, BSN Denver sources have confirmed to Ryan Koenigsberg that former Colorado Buffaloes big man Josh Scott will play with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League taking place this July in Las Vegas. Scott went undrafted in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, but was nearly unanimously considered to be a summer league addition for someone.

Scott averaged career highs in points and rebounds his senior season, scoring 16.3 points and pulling down 8.8 rebounds per game, while leading Colorado to the NCAA Tournament and earning a spot on the First Team All Pac-12 list.

As the pre-draft process wore on, it became clear that NBA scouts and front office decision makers valued the youth, length, or perceived athleticism of other big man prospects over those possessed by the Monument, Colo. product, who played his high school ball with Lewis-Palmer High School. Still, his career production demanded notice and it appears that his hometown squad did just that.

The Nuggets gain a six-foot-ten, 245 pound big man that was one of just two players in CU history to record 1,700 points, 900 rebounds and 100 blocked shots. His name is atop many categories throughout the Colorado career record book ranking second in free throws made and blocked shots, third in rebounds and games started, fifth in minutes played and double-double, sixth in games played, eighth in scoring, 28th in steals, and 50th in assists. He was a three-time Chauncey Billups Award winner as the team’s most valuable player and he won 82 games while in school at Boulder.

Scott was among those to first workout for the Nuggets before the Draft, though some speculated that he was being used as a local and able body. Whether or not that was the case no longer matters, as he’ll get his shot to prove his worth against fellow rookies and others who have recently joined the league.
