BSN Denver has confirmed that the Colorado Rockies have promoted highly-regarded outfield prospect David Dahl to Triple-A Albuquerque. Dahl, a six-foot-two, 195-pound left-handed hitting 22-year-old is a consensus top 50 prospect in all of baseball.
The 2012 first-round pick has hit 278/.367/.500 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 76 games for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats this season and he was recently named to the Eastern League’s All-Star team. The only reason he was playing in the Eastern League for a second straight season is because his 2015 season was shortened due to a terrible on-field collision that resulted in a ruptured — and then removed — spleen.
This promotion means it is likely we will see Dahl in a Colorado Rockies uniform at some point this season. He would’ve been added to the 40-man roster after the end of the season anyway to protect him from the Rule-Five Draft. But perhaps the only reason he is still in the minors is because he has been forced to repeat levels on the count of injuries.
According to Fangraphs, Dahl has a 20/6o hit tool, 55/55 power tool, 60/60 speed tool, 50/55 fielding tool, and a 55/55 arm. He is easily one of the Rockies most talented position players the Rockies have and the club intends to build around him.
