Colts DC Greg Manusky hopes Vernon Davis doesn't play much Sunday

Vernon Davis, the newest Denver Broncos player, is already frightening opponents and he hasn’t even stepped on the field for the orange and blue yet.

OK, Manusky may have been joking, but he was likely partly serious, too. Denver’s offense finally clicked last Sunday night in the 29-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers — Peyton Manning threw for 340 yards, C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman combined for 160 yards on the ground and the tight ends were actually involved — and now Davis brings the speed of a receiver in the body of a linebacker.

John Elway pulling the trigger on the trade once again shows he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win; the Broncos are in good hands with Elway leading the way. For Davis, a change of scenery was exactly what he needed, and there’s evidence he’ll prosper with Manning throwing him the football.

Denver’s 7-0, not due to their offense, but their NFL-best defense. The Broncos are No. 1 in points allowed (112), yards (1,828), passing yards (1,203), passing touchdowns (5) and their 17 forced turnovers are second-best.

The Indianapolis Colts, on the other hand, are atop the sad AFC South at 3-5 and enter Sunday’s game on a three-game losing streak. Their star quarterback Andrew Luck has been struggling on the field due to injuries and the six inches between his ears. When Denver’s D brings the pressure, it could be a long day for Luck.

Meanwhile, Manning can break two of Brett Favre’s records this Sunday fittingly in Indy; passing yards and wins.

The Broncos and Colts face off this Sunday at 2:25 p.m. MT. The game will be televised on CBS.
