Gian Clavell put together one of the most impressive two-game stretches in recent Colorado State basketball history last week. The league announced Monday that Clavell was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for his performances against San Jose State and San Diego State.
Clavell averaged 30.5 points and 10 rebounds in the pair of CSU victories. The 6-4 senior guard scored 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds over the Spartans.
The Rams leading scorer showed his flair for the dramatic three days later at San Diego State. Clavell put the the team on his back essentially, as he served as the catalyst for CSU’s improbable come-from-behind win. Larry Eustachy watched Clavell score the final 12 points for the Rams en route to his career-high 37 points.
Clavell went 14-of-23 from the field against the Aztecs, but a head-turning 11-of-14 in the second half.
CSU welcomes Boise State for a 7 p.m. tipoff Wednesday at Moby Arena. It’s one of what could be several marquee games for the Rams in the back end of Mountain West play. The Rams and Broncos are tied for second in the league with a 6-3 conference record.
