FORT COLLINS — Colorado State was already having an extremely successful month on the recruiting trail prior to Thursday’s commitments.
After entering June with just one official commit, quarterback Jackson Brousseau, the CSU staff has been able to put together an impressive group of prospective Rams to (hopefully) help the program grow.
It’s still early in the process, obviously, we still have six whole months until the early signing period rolls around. With the most recent verbals that CSU was able to pick up though, it seems safe to say that this staff has really found its groove.
After the Green & Gold flipped 6-foot-5, 210-pound wide receiver Mason Muaau from Hawaii and received a commitment from him on Wednesday night, the Rams then picked up verbals from Christian Martin and Silas Evans III on Thursday.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, Martin is a versatile offensive tackle out of Destrehan, Louisiana, with offers from Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Houston and Troy, according to on3.com.
Watching Martin’s Hudl film, one of the things that really stands out is his athletic frame. Despite being an extremely large individual, Martin looks lean and he moves really well. Like most high school offensive linemen, there is definitely room for refinement, but that is to be expected at this stage of his career. With increased mass and the right coaching, Martin looks like a guy that could be very impactful at this level.
Evans, on the other hand, is the second local prospect to commit to CSU this cycle.
A 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver and track star out of George Washington High School, Evans has posted about offers from Colorado, Cornell, Northern Colorado and Oregon State. He also took an unofficial visit to Wyoming.
Although George Washington’s offense is predominately centered around running the football, Evans is coming off of a solid junior year in which he led his team in receiving yards (468) and receiving touchdowns (8). Nobody else on the roster had more than 200 yards receiving or three touchdowns. Evans also averaged 18.6 yards per carry on six rushes, too.
Watching Evans on film, it’s easy to see that he fits the mold to be a successful receiver in the Air Raid. He is not the biggest guy on the field, however, he runs extremely well, pursues the ball aggressively and has soft hands to complete the play. If a defender fails to wrap him up, Evans has the ability to shake tackles and create yardage after the catch as well.
Honestly, it’s a little surprising that Evans has not received more attention from some of the bigger programs on the West Coast. Ram fans should be stoked that the staff was able to get him to commit to staying home.
