Superb scheduling, Joe Parker.
The Colorado State Athletic Director has been busy in recent weeks, scheduling all kinds of opponents for both CSU Football as well as men’s basketball.
Today’s news brings a big time opponent in the Texas Tech Red Raiders of the Big 12. In 2025, Colorado State will welcome the Power 5 team to Sonny Lubick Field at the on-campus stadium, with the game scheduled for Sept. 6, 2025. The next year, CSU travels to Lubbock, Texas, with that game scheduled for Sept. 12, 2026.
While most of the scheduling Parker has been putting together has focused on the next few years, this home-and-home goes out an entire decade; the on-campus stadium will be seven years old by the time Texas Tech comes to town. It shows he’s dedicated to setting his football team up with quality opponents for years to come and that he’s not afraid to look far down the road if it means competing against a big name.
Texas Tech, head coached by Kliff Kingsbury, went 7-6 last season. Just like Mike Bobo, Kingsbury set a school record with seven regular season wins in his first year as head coach in 2013. The Red Raiders last won a bowl game in 2013’s Holiday Bowl 33-23 over Arizona State and they went 7-6 last season, just like the Rams.
“It is important for our program to build toward the future and face competition that will challenge us and excite our fans,” said CSU head coach Mike Bobo. “We’re excited to play a game and have a presence in Texas, where we recruit heavily, and to be able to bring a Big 12 program to Fort Collins.”
This home-and-home comes on the heels of a home-and-home series announcement against Toledo from the Mid-American Conference in 2019 (Fort Collins) and 2021 (Toledo). Earlier in the month, the school announced they’ll play a two-sport combo series with Arkansas of the SEC. Men’s basketball will play a home-and-home with the school in 2017-18 and 2018-19 while football travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2019.
