FORT COLLINS — Colorado State continues to recruit the West Coast heavily and it’s paying major dividends for the program.

On Tuesday the Rams picked up a verbal commitment from Lavon Brown, a three-star wide receiver out of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, Calif.  According to 247Sports, in addition to CSU, Brown holds offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Oregon, Florida State, USC, Utah, Utah State and UNLV.

Coincidentally, Brown is the second recruit to commit to CSU in the last 24 hours over an offer from a former CSU coach presently working for a power five school. Brown was offered by Kenny Guiton at Arkansas, per 247Sports. And Justin Marshall, who also announced his commitment to CSU on Tuesday, was recruited by Alvis Whitted at Wisconsin.

Prior to transferring to Sierra Canyon HS, Brown played for Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas, but unfortunately their MaxPreps page is not up to date with accurate stats. Watching his Hudl film, though, what stands out is that he’s a natural pass catcher and has legitimate abilities to create yards after the catch. On multiple plays he catches the ball around mid-field, before making a guy miss and extending the play for big yardage. It’s also encouraging to see that he ran a variety of routes and was not just a one-trick guy. Ie. quick screens or deep balls.

With Brown on board the Rams have two wide receivers committed for its 2023 class in total. Stephon Daily (Arizona) was the first to announce a few weeks back. However, since his commitment, it’s been largely defensive players that the Rams have racked up over the last two weekends. While it is nice to see defensive coordinator Freddie banks bolstering the depth at EDGE and linebacker — it’s also encouraging to see CSU continue to stack up talent at wide receiver — even with a plethora of talented freshman joining the squad in 2022.
