Colorado State lands third NDSU transfer this spring

Yet another former North Dakota State player will be moving from Fargo to Fort Collins this summer.

Tony Pierce announced he intends to transfer to Colorado State on Tuesday. He joins safety Dom Jones and running back Kobe Johnson — both of which already previously announced their respective commitments.

A 6-foot-1, 242-pound defensive end, Pierce comes to CSU with 99 total tackles in his career (14.5 for loss). He has recorded eight sacks, a pair of pass breakups and a fumble recovery as well.

After starting every game for the Bison this past fall, Pierce joins the Rams as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining. He is reunited with defensive line coach Buddha Williams, who coached the defensive line for the Bison for the first four years of Pierce’s college career.

For CSU, though the defensive line is arguably the deepest group on the team, adding another weapon to the arsenal is a big win. Defensive coordinator Freddie Banks loves to heavily rotate players and keep the guys in the trenches fresh, so having as many capable defensive linemen on the roster as possible makes total sense.

Finally, while Norvell and Co. may not be getting the attention that Deion Sanders is receiving at CU, CSU has quietly added an impressive group of transfers that will greatly bolster the depth of the team in 2023. They’ve already added guys at every necessary position and we haven’t officially even reached the end of the semester yet.
