As Colorado Rockies spring training 2017 rolls on, we want to make sure we are giving you regular progress reports as opposed to just individual game notes. We will still be providing those more from time to time, but if you follow the Rockies at this time of year looking less at the box score and more at how what is happening now might affect the upcoming season, these reports should be far more helpful.
Progress Report 2:
The first number you see shows where the player stands currently adding up each Progress Report. The second number (in parenthesis) is there mark in this report.
Stock Up:
Gerardo Parra +2 (+1) — Parra is hitting .353 with three walks, a home run, a stolen base, and just two strikeouts. He has also looked much better in the outfield than he did after his ankle injury a year ago.
Jordan Patterson +2 (+1) — Patterson is leading the Rockies in spring training at-bats and has responded by slugging .727 and driving in four runs. He has also flashed the leather both at first base and in the outfield.
Mark Reynolds +2 (+1) — Reynolds chose to come back to the Rockies despite the club handing 70 million dollars to his replacement. This spring he has hit .400/.474/.667 putting his place on the roster less and less in question.
Cristhian Adames +1 (+1) — Adames has pulled into a clear lead for backup middle infield, hitting .444 with two home runs in 11 games.
Pat Valaika +1 (+1) — Valaika is tied with Trevor Story for the team lead in home runs at three and is also hitting a robust .333.
Stephen Cardullo +1 (+1) — Cardullo is leading the club in RBI with seven. He is batting .357.
Kyle Freeland 0 (+1) — After a rough first start, Freeland bounced back with a scoreless pair of innings in his last outing.
Stock Down:
Miguel Castro 0 (-1) — Castro had been cruising until a four-run inning with three wild pitches caused us to pump the breaks a bit.
Jason Motte -1 (-1) — Motte has given up runs the last two times he has entered a game this spring.
Carlos Estevez -1 (-1) — Estevez is tied with Motte with a 6.00 ERA after a rough inning in his last outing.
James Farris -1 (-1) — Farris got pretty well knocked around his last time out, leading to a 9.00 early spring ERA.
Shane Carle -1 (-1) — Carle has posted an 11.24 ERA over four innings pitched in four different games.
NOTES:
- Blackmon hitting .389, LeMahieu .500
