DENVER — According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Colorado Rockies have signed former All-Star outfielder Dominic Brown to a contract. Details of the deal are still emerging but it is likely to be at a low cost with Brown having struggled in Triple-A last season after years of a downward trend.
In 2013, Brown hit .272/.324/.494 with 27 home runs in an All-Star campaign with the Philadelphia Phillies but has never even come close to those numbers since.
At 29-years-old, there might still be some hope that Brown could find the spark again, and Coors Field would certainly be the kind of place that could return confidence. But the path may be long for him, battling it our with Chris Denorfia and Jordan Patterson for the final bench spot. His left-handedness doesn’t do him any favors with Gerardo Parra and Raimel Tapia in the mix as well.
The Rockies are likely looking at a best case scenario here where the six-foot-five Brown rediscovers his power stroke to some degree and can pave a way for himself on the roster as a late-game pinch-hitter type.
