Denver — The Colorado Rockies have placed Jake McGee on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation. McGee has been the Rockies Closer for all of 2016 and has been mostly very good in the role, but came unglued last night, punting the game away with two outs in the ninth to the San Diego Padres.
The corresponding move is the promotion of Tyler Anderson, a left-handed pitcher who has been in the Rockies system for a long time. The 26-year old has dealt with a number of injury issues throughout his minor league career but has been nothing short of phenomenal when he has taken the mound, posting a 2.38 ERA across four seasons and winning the Texas League Pitcher of the Year award in 2014.
Anderson sports a big looping curveball and a biting change-up which allows him to pitch “backwards” often using a well-located fastball instead of off speed for an out pitch. In 17 innings for Triple-A Albuquerque, Anderson has posted a 2.12 ERA. His first appearance will mark his MLB debut.
