DENVER – Colorado Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra has offfcially been placed on the 10-day disabled list after a baserunning snafu while stealing a base took him out of Tuesday’s game with a right quad strain. Bud Black said post game that he would likely miss a few weeks.
Raimel Tapia, who was already up with Alexi Amersita on paternity leave is expected to get many more at-bats and split time Ian Desmond in left field. Pat Valika and Amersita can both play that corner and in a pinch Mark Reynolds could as well.
Taking Parra’s immediate roster spot is infielder/outfielder and left-handed hitting Jordan Patterson.
Last year Parra hit the DL on June 17. The Rockies were 32-33 at the time, he missed 46 and the club went 23-23 when he was shelved.
This season Parra is slashing .318/.348/.480 with 28 RBI, but he was 17-for-his-last-30 at the plate before he came up limping.
