Colorado Rockies place closer Ottavino on DL

The Rockies have placed closer Adam Ottavino on the 15 day DL with right triceps inflammation.

Ottavino pitched two clean innings over two games vs the Giants before Sunday’s game was rained out.

Weiss has yet to name a new closer but will speak to the media before tonight’s game in Arizona. Ottavino didn’t pitch in a save opportunity on Thursday vs the Padres when Walt Weiss turned to John Axford instead. Rafael Betancourt could also be an option to step into the role as it is familiar to him. Both players have saves on the season already.

The Rockies have recalled RHP Jorge Rondon to take Ottavino’s roster spot. Rondon made his major league debut last year with the Cardinals and has only appeared in one big league game.
