DENVER – When Colorado Rockies outfielder/first baseman Ian Desmond came to the plate in the fifth inning of Friday night’s contest against the San Francisco Giants, the Rockies were rolling but still down 4-3.

After Ian Desmond’s fifth inning at-bat, the Colorado Rockies led 6-3. It was a big moment and a big swing from a player who has been much better lately, hitting over .300 in the month of June, but self-admittedly was frustrated at not contributing more to the offense. This swing felt good:

Desmond is now 13-for-his-last-33 with two home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI.

Much will be written about Desmond and his contract and his contributions over the next several seasons, but for this moment, none of that really mattered as he pumped his fists, rounding the bases, giving his first-place ballclub a lift they desperately needed.
