Major League Baseball announced the starting rosters for the mid-summer classic last night and for the first time since 2009, the Colorado Rockies will not have a starter representing them in the All Star Game.
Troy Tulowitzki came up 3,129,080 votes short of St Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta despite Tulowitzki having better batting average (.321/.297) and more RBI (44/42) on the season. Tulowitzki will likely be named a reserve for the National League, but Peralta will be representing the NL’s best Cardinals as the starter.
Nolan Arenado is having a breakout year, but he wasn’t even close in voting, finishing fourth among NL third baseman.
Arenado outranks two out of the top four vote getters in batting average, home runs and RBI but still fell far behind Todd Frazier, Matt Carpenter and Cubs rookie Kris Bryant.
Frazier clearly deserves to be the starter in his home stadium of Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, but Arenado shouldn’t be that far behind in consideration. Arenado probably wont make the reserve roster but may have a shot to get in the game still through the MLB All-Star Final Vote. If a player like Bryant were to be included in this vote, he and his fanbase might be tough for Arenado to beat.
The rest of the 2015 All-Star rosters along with the Final Vote candidates will be announced tonight on an ESPN selection show at 7:00pm ET.
