As a result of the Corey Dickerson for Jake McGee trade the Colorado Rockies were left with 41 men on their 40-man roster. The corresponding move to resolve that problem has been to designate Christian Friedrich for assignment.
Friedrich was picked in the first round (25th overall) in the 2008 draft out of Eastern Kentucky. The now 28-year-old has spent parts of three seasons in Denver playing for the big club. In 2012, he flopped as a starter and he came back in 2014 as a reliever. In 2015, the left-handed bullpen arm threw 58.1 innings, recording an 0-4 record and a 5.25 ERA.
In his career, Friedrich played in exactly 100 games for the Rockies. He had a 5-16 record in 167.1 innings pitched.
