One of my least favorite sports cliche’s growing up was “he made that look easy.” Almost every time it was uttered, I couldn’t help but think what just happened looked incredibly hard. Tell ’em, Wash.
This game is hard. It looks hard. Dives and slides, no matter how smooth, quite clearly take a measure of skill that most of us intrinsically know we don’t possess. That’s why we marvel at pro athletes. Whoa, can you believe he just did that?
But like most things in this game, Nolan Arenado defies all of that. Arenado defies logic, he defies traditional and new-age methodologies, he cannot be measured and he cannot be contained.
The Colorado Rockies Defensive Play of the Week is also a routine play for the greatest defender in MLB:

He made that look easy.
Nolan Arenado is a wizard.
