Whenever you have a pitcher that can shake off an ERA just shy of 12 at home and turn it into one of the most dominating performances in recent memory you know you have things going your way.
Colorado Rockies pitcher German Marquez pitched lights out Wednesday evening under the lights of Coors Field against the reigning World Series Champion Chicago Cubs; taking a no-hitter into the seventh before eventually being broken up by All-Star Kris Bryant. Before Bryant disrupted history, the no-no was in danger on a blooper from Cubs’ pitcher Kyle Hendricks but was secured by a spectacular diving catch by Carlos Gonzalez.
“Great catch, right?” Rockies’ Skipper Bud Black said after the win. “He’s been playing great defensively.”
