In the words of the immortal Billy Zane: “It’s a walk off.”
The Colorado Rockies did everything in their power to lose Thursday night’s wild game against division foe San Francisco Giants but somehow walked away with a 10-9 victory. In a game that saw a heroic diving stop from shortstop Trevor Story, the first blown save from ace closer Greg Holland, and a three-double night from Nolan Arenado, one name stands out above the rest.
Rox youngster Raimel Tapia saw the biggest opportunity of his young career Thursday night as he faced Giants closer Hunter Strickland and was able to deliver in spades. Tapia shot a roller through the right side to bring Mark Reynolds home and gave the Rockies top-spot in the National League yet again; it was the first walk-off hit on only his 73rd plate appearance in the majors.
With the win, Colorado has now won six straight against San Francisco, a franchise record.
