Winning back-to-back games in today’s National Hockey League is not a rare feat—unless you’re the Colorado Avalanche.
The helpless Avs won back-to-back games for just the fourth time this season, and at home no less! Colorado played well against a New Jersey Devils team Thursday night at the Can and beat the Devils by a score of 3-2 after a beautiful, over-the-shoulder goal from Francois Beauchemin lit the lamp with just 76 seconds left in regulation. The game-winner gave Beauchemin his third of the season and was assisted by Blake Comeau.
Colorado is the only team that is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with a 16-44-3 overall record. However, the Avs are 9-1-1 in their last 11 against New Jersey and are in great position to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft, so there is something to cheer about.
