The Colorado Rockies began the final eight-game stretch of the season with one of their best-played games of 2020, securing a relatively comfortable 7-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

Moment of the Game: Diaz Blows It Open In The 5th

The game went from good to great for the Rockies offense when Elias Diaz hit a line drive just over the head and out of the reach of Alex Dickerson in left field for a long two-run single to make it 6-0.

It was set up by a one-out walk by Trevor Story, Josh Fuentes’ second single of the game, and a walk for Ryan McMahon. It was also set up by a questionable call on an 0-2 change-up from Johnny Cueto that definitely caught the zone, but for once Colorado was able to take advantage of the break.

Garrett Hampson added another run with a single to left to make it 7-0 before the inning was over.

Player of the Game: German Marquez

The Giants were able to scratch out a run in the fifth and ratchet up the pitch count in his final two frames but Marquez cruised for most of this one. He kept San Francisco hitters off balance all night with his signature mix of fastball, slider, curveball.

His location wasn’t his best and a few too many of his breaking balls were a bit too easy for the Giants to look off. As such, he only ended up with a trio of punchouts. Still, he limited the damage to just the one run on five hits, only one of which went for extra bases.

Early offense

Kevin Pillar got the first rally of the game going in the first when he hit a single back up the middle. It turned out to be the first of four singles as he was joined by Charlie Blackmon and also Josh Fuentes and Ryan McMahon who came through with the two-out RBI hits to make it 2-0.

Pillar went down and got a perfectly located cutting fastball in the third and hit it out to left for his sixth home run of the season.
