The Colorado Avalanche announced they have signed restricted free agent Joey Hishon to a one-year, two-way contract with a cap hit of $890,000 if Hishon makes the NHL. His AHL salary would be $70,000 if that’s where he ends up.

The 23-year old Hishon made his regular season NHL debut last year, appearing in 13 games and registering 1 goal and 1 assist in his time with the big club. As a member of the Avs’ AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, Hishon posted a very respectable 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 53 games played.

Known more for the disastrous concussion that derailed his career for two seasons, Hishon turned the page last season and began writing the next chapter of his young career. Hishon’s game-winning goal versus the Nashville Predators on April 7, 2015 marked his first career NHL goal and gave Avalanche fans a memorable highlight in an otherwise frustrating season.

With the signing of Hishon, the Avalanche currently have 44 signed contracts (the max is 50) and their only remaining restricted free agents are Freddie Hamilton, Stefan Elliott, and Calvin Pickard.
