Colorado Avalanche Selects Gustav Olhaver With 191st Pick

The Colorado Avalanche have selected Gustav Olhaver, a center and left wing from the Rogle Junior -20 team from the Swedish Junior League, with the 191st pick, the 10th selection in the 7th round and Colorado’s final pick of the draft.

Olhaver, 17, scored 12 points in 41 games last season in the U-20 league. Before being promoted to the U-20 team, he scored 14 points, including 10 goals, in 11 games played before being promoted to the U-20 team.

He is a 6’6”, 214 pound forward who was ranked 89th by European Central Scouting and played for Team Sweden at the WJC-18 tournament, notching 1 goal in 5 games. Olhaver’s incredible size is coupled with a nose for the dirty areas of the ice and great skating. He’s a high effort player and is a long-term development project, making his selection in the 7th round very appropriate.

He’s a physical player whose future profiles as a bottom six player if he ever decides to come to North America and should he pan out could become a very effective complementary role player with the ability to impact games with his size and high-energy play style.
