The Colorado Avalanche have selected A.J. Greer 39th overall from Boston University of the NCAA.
The 6’3”, 205 pound Greer is a classic power forward who plays a heavy style and possesses high-end offensive skills. While he only scored 7 points in 37 games played in his freshman season last year, Greer played primarily in a third line role for the championship runner-up Terriers.
Greer’s career highlight so far came in the semifinal game when he blasted a howitzer of a shot in in Boston’s victory over North Dakota to propel them into the national championship game.
As a 17-year old freshman, Greer has already completed one year of college hockey, putting him on a quicker path to professional hockey than your typical college kid.
As was predicted several times by the BSN staff, Greer and Colorado were a perfect fit come draft day. You can read Greer’s full prospect profile here.
Colorado has 4 selections remaining after the second round as they pick again at 71, 101, 161, and 191 in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh rounds, respectively.
