“I think the 49ers and Broncos are there in compensation for Kaepernick.”

To clarify: No deal yet between 49ers and Broncos for Kaepernick. Browns still in it. Not likely to happen tonight but fluid situation.

Part of Kaepernick’s current contract is set to be made guaranteed by April 1st so a deal would likely have to take place before then. The Broncos may be in on Ryan Fitzpatrick if a deal with the 49ers can’t be made.

UPDATED: Talks between the Broncos and 49ers are intensifying but Denver isn’t the only team in the mix.
Talks have intensified between the 49ers and Broncos re: Kaepernick. But Broncos are not the only suitor. More on @nflnetwork soon

Silver is reporting that the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets are also vying for Kaepernick’s services.

“Plan A” Peyton Manning is walking off into the sunset after a storied hall of fame career. “Plan B” Brock Osweiler has signed with the Houston Texans. So it will come down to “Plan C” and that may be San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
If the #Broncos lose QB Brock Osweiler, expect them to come after QB Colin Kaepernick. That appears to be their backup plan.

Kaepernick is still under contract through 2020 with the 49ers so the Broncos would have to trade for the Nevada product. Kaepernick is due $41.4 million over the next three years before the 49ers or Broncos could get out of the five-year deal and save the remaining $35.8 million.
Kaepernick is coming off of a putrid season in which he was benched but as our own Brandon Spano pointed out on 103.5 the fox this morning in Denver, he did lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl with a similar defensive oriented style team in 2012.
John Elway and Gary Kubiak were impressed by Kaepernick’s athleticism when the two teams held joint practices last training camp at Broncos headquarters.

“I’ve always liked Colin,” said Elway, who went to nine Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls as a player with the Broncos. ”I think he’s very athletic, and he’s a guy that can make a lot of big plays. He’s doing more within the pocket, which I think will continue to help him. He’s a great athlete, and he’s got that big-play ability to avoid things and make things happen.”
Elway wasn’t the only member of the Broncos staff who was impressed by Kaepernick’s continued progression as an NFL quarterback. Head coach Gary Kubiak, who spent all day Wednesday watching his offense, spent Thursday’s practice watching Kaepernick operate against his defense.
“He’s got a big-time arm,” Kubiak said. “He can make every throw, and then when you cover people up he goes and makes plays. He’s obviously a special player, and to have a good team in this league, you better have a special player at that position.
ESPN Adam Schefter is also reporting that the Broncos could move to former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III as well.
With Brock Osweiler off to Houston, RGIII is on Broncos’ list of replacement quarterbacks, per source. Could be visiting Denver.
