Charlie Blackmon wins National League batting title

Charlie Blackmon has won the 11th batting title in Colorado Rockies franchise history. He is the ninth Rockies player to win the award with both Larry Walker and Todd Helton accomplishing the feat multiple times. He joins the list with them and Andres Galarraga (the first to do it) Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Holliday, Michael Cuddyer, Justin Morneau, and DJ LeMahieu.

Blackmon collected 213 hits this season which is the fourth most in a single season in the history of the franchise. With a base hit in the bottom of the third inning on Sunday, he secured the batting title, making it impossible for Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers to catch him. He finishes the season with a .331 batting average, 10 points higher than Turner.

This caps off arguably the best hitting season for a leadoff man in the 148-year history of the game of baseball. He is one of just nine players in MLB history with at least 130 runs, 35 doubles, 14 triples, and 35 home runs. The last was Stan Musial in 1948. All of the other eight players on that list are in the Hall of Fame.

His final slashline of the season: .331/.400/.602 with 37 home runs, 14 triples, 35 doubles, and 137 runs scored.
