Charlie Blackmon exits Wednesday's game with apparent injury

DENVER – In the sixth inning of the Colorado Rockies final game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday afternoon, Charlie Blackmon was removed from the game in the middle of an at-bat with an apparent leg injury. He was clutching at his left hamstring after pulling a ball hard down the right-field line and after a long conversation with manager Bud Black — in which the outfielder appeared to be lobbying to stay in the contest — he was removed from the action.

Blackmon actually grabbed at his hamstring twice in that at-bat before bowing out from the ball game.

Pat Valaika entered the game in an 0-2 count and promptly came through with an RBI single.

Blackmon was 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored in the game. He leads MLB in hits at 129 and is batting .329 on the season. The All-Star also is on track to be the first player to have 20 triples in a decade.

Obviously, any extended time out of the lineup for Blackmon would be a big blow to the Rockies but at this time there is no clear indication that this was anything but precautionary especially since the ball game was out of hand. We will have more coverage as details of the severity of the injury emerge.
