San Diego – There is something wrong, seriously wrong with Chad Bettis, looking from the outside you would never know considering his ERA and win-loss record is right about the same as it was last year, but something is wrong with Bettis. The Padres barreled up ball after all ball off of Bettis on Saturday night’s en route to their 4-3 win.

Bettis’ bite isn’t as superb, his locations aren’t as legitimate and his velocity isn’t as valid as it was last year. Made evident this time by the Padres hot bats, who are normally silenced by the 27-year-old Colorado right-hander, there is just something off with Chad Bettis in 2016.

In the first former rookie of the year Will Meyers hit a solo shot to start the San Deigo night, Meyers hit speed on that blast would be 99 MPH. He’d get two more knocks on the night, each with speeds of 99 MPH or more.

The Rockies answered right back with a Charlie Blackmon double which drove in Mark Reynolds and Nick Hundley. The extra bagger kept “Chuck’s” 30 games on base streak alive, it’s the longest streak the club has had since Troy Tulowitzki reached base safely in 41 consecutive games last year.

The Rockies only lead of the night was short-lived as San Diego’s catcher Derrick Norris rocked a two-run shot over the left-field fence in the second. Norris’s sixth homer of the year traveled only 370 feet and was helped by the notoriously hitter-friendly PETCO Park.

Matt Kemp singled in a run during the fourth inning but thanks to a Meyers base running out the Padres rally was avoided.

Mark Reynolds hit a solo shot in the fourth, his first since April and it would be the last run of this 4-3 game.

In the sixth the Rockies were gifted a bases loaded situation with Andrew Cashner on the ropes, Kevin Quackenbush after issuing a walk got Rockies slugger Nolan Arenado

BY THE NUMBERS:

10-13 – The Rockies have lost ten of their past 13.

11 – The amount of hits the Padres had against the Rockies Saturday.

11 – Chad Bettis allowed 11 home runs in 2015, he has allowed that many in 2016 as well.

33.1% – Trevor Story struck out twice and his strikeout rate is now up to a not-so-good 33%.
