On Saturday afternoon, head coach Pete Borlase announced that lock Luke White will serve as the Colorado Raptors team captain for the 2020 season. Entering his sixth season with the club, White is one of the longest-tenured Raptors on the roster. White has been an instrumental part of the club as they transitioned from the Pacific Rugby Premiership to the professional ranks of Major League Rugby. “To be named captain for the 2020 season is an incredible honor,” White said after the announcement. “It makes me very excited to be able to lead all of my brothers and best mates. It doesn’t change anything in terms of the way I play. Things continue as normal. It’s a very exciting and…

The Colorado Raptors’ preseason is over. Now, it all counts. They wrapped up the last of their preseason matches with a trip to Austin the weekend prior with a 22-21 win over the newly-named Gilgronis. That victory came on the heels of another preseason victory that took place a week earlier in Las Vegas. The Raptors got their preseason started with a 32-26 victory over Rugby ATL after some quality joint training session work with the Toronto Arrows. After two weeks of matches and joint training sessions, the Raptors are feeling good about where they stand heading into the season. Starting with the joint training session with the Arrows, lock Luke White was very pleased with what his team put…

The Colorado Raptors are heading down to Austin, Texas to wrap up their preseason training with an exhibition match against the Herd. After starting the preseason on the right foot with a 36-26 win over Rugby ATL last weekend, the Raptors will look to keep the momentum rolling against a Herd team that went winless in 2019. While and 0-16 isn’t a pretty record by any stretch of the imagination, the Herd were far more competitive than their record indicated. The Raptors beat Austin 24-13 and 38-19 in both of the matches they played last season. You can be sure that they will use their less than ideal performance in 2019 as motivation in 2020. The Raptors will face a…

One of the best ways to dip your toe in the waters that are a new sport is to understand how points are scored. Not only does understanding the scoring provide you with a fundamental understanding of the game, but it also allows you to pick up on strategies, tactics, and the logic behind the decisions that are made throughout the course of a match. As we try to grow the sport of rugby, one of the best places to start is by introducing all of the ways to score points in a rugby union match. If you are familiar with the scoring system in American football, rugby scoring won’t be too hard to understand. Try – 5 points A…

After a long six weeks of preseason training, the Colorado Raptors will finally get their first opportunity to hit somebody else this weekend. “The boys are pretty hungry for contact,” Raptors inside center Robbie Petzer said with a smile. “We are ready to smash into someone else.” “Someone else,” in this scenario just so happens to be the Toronto Arrows and Rugby ATL at a three-day joint training session in Las Vegas that will include at least one scrimmage with each of the two clubs. This weekend will serve as their first of two trips to Vegas for the Raptors. They will take on last year’s championship runner-up San Diego Legion as a part of Major League Rugby’s Las Vegas…

The 2019 Major League Rugby season didn’t go as planned for the Colorado Raptors. After narrowly falling to the Seattle Seawolves 23-19 in the inaugural Major League Rugby Championship in 2018, the Raptors never really gained their footing in 2019 and finished with a 7-7-2 record and sixth place in the table as a result. They were two spots and 11 points out of the playoffs. That’s not how things work in Colorado. The Raptors are used to competing for championships instead of watching the playoffs from the couch. The slip that was the 2019 season is just one of the reasons that the Raptors are primed for a big 2020. Starting the 2020 season on the right foot will…
