Catching you up on all things Von Miller

After a long lull in the Denver Broncos contract negotiations with Von Miller, things heated up in a big way on Friday. The updates came early, often, from various outlets and remained fluid throughout the day.

Here’s what you may have missed:

Early on Friday, Ed Werder of ESPN reported that the Broncos were set to talk. He then followed that up noting that the Broncos were now willing to guarantee the third year of the deal at an earlier date (March 2017), a big development in itself. As many have learned throughout the process, not much matters more than how much the guarantees are and when do they hit. A March 2017 trigger on the third year guarantee is essentially a full guarantee, as the Broncos will have already paid Von for the second year of the contract, making cutting him a near impossibility.

Just a couple hours later, another significant development as Jason Cole of Bleacher Report dropped the new numbers on the table for Von, still six years, still $114 million total but now with $61 million guaranteed. A substantial $23 million jump since the last reported offer earlier this offseason.

Still, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com indicated that substantial increase didn’t “move the needle much for Miller,” shooting down the good feelings surrounding the actual movement in the talks.

Positive buzz returned, though, late in the afternoon, when Mike Klis of 9 News reported the Broncos had increased their offer yet again and Miller was going to sleep on it, and the two sides would reconvene on Saturday.

As things stand, both parties are still meeting today. Rand Getlin of NFL Network reported via Snapchat (rand_getlin) that there is a “sense of optimism” from both sides that a deal will get done and that the negotiations are “a lot better off than [they] were a week ago.”

Meanwhile, via his own Snapchat (millerlite40), Von is. . . well, just being Von. Throwing out the first pitch at the Texas Rangers game last night with his ring on, hanging out with his “pet” owl Hootie and yes, rocking his Broncos gear.
