CarGo, Bridich, Weiss adamantly deny trade request rumors

A report by MLB Insider Jon Heyman made waves Thursday when Heyman reported that Rockies slugger Carlos Gonzalez held a meeting with GM Jeff Bridich to request a trade out of Colorado.

In the original article, Heyman reported that Gonzalez had become disgruntled with the team and met with Bridich formally, where he “expressed an interest” in being part of a trade as this year’s deadline approaches.

Soon after, Bridich strongly denied that such a meeting had taken place, telling SB Nation reporter Chris Cotillo that there were “zero meetings, not one meeting.” Heyman also retracted his original report:

Gonzalez also vehemently denied the report, saying “nothing is true.”

“I don’t know when that happened, maybe I was asleep,” Gonzalez said. He also denied that he is feeling frustrated with the team.

“I haven’t talked to anybody, I haven’t said that to anybody, not even my wife or my kids, or my mom,” he said. Manager Walt Weiss echoed these sentiments saying that any report suggesting any report to the contrary to be “fabricated.”

With the trade deadline approaching at the end of July, it is normal for rumors to circulate regarding potential trades and disgruntled players, particularly on struggling teams like the Rockies. However, there has been nothing coming from the team, Gonzalez, his agent, the Rockies or other reporters to collaborate Heyman’s claims.

Gonzalez, for his part, emphasized that his focus remains on the team while he is here, however long that is.

“The one thing that I care about is just be good, be healthy, be a good teammate, play hard and continue to make this team better.”
