RECAP

In what may have been the first game this season where the Buffs were truly outmatched in all phases, the Stanford Cardinal came into Boulder and put a 42-10 whooping on Colorado. Behind 151 yards rushing 39 yards returning, 15 yards receiving  and even 28 yards passing from Christian McCaffrey Stanford marched all over the Colorado defense to put up a total of 472 yards.

On the other side of the ball, the Buffs were never able to get anything going, especially on the ground where none of their backs averaged over three yards per carry. In the air, Sefo Liufau was only able to amass 125 yards on 10-of-18.

Just one week after running 114 plays against UCLA, Colorado ran a measly 53 against the Cardinal. With starting quarterback Kevin Hogan in the game, Stanford scored touchdowns on six of their eight drives, including marches of  15, 13 and 12 plays.

The Buffs were able to hang in the game for most of the first half, but an attempt to bring the game within one score before the buzzer backfired. Sefo Liufau sailed a pass on third and long right into the outstretched arms of Dallas Lloyd. Stanford took the ball 53 yards the other way in the next seven plays to stretch the lead out to 28-7 before the half, effectively shutting the door on any chance of an upset for Colorado.

Colorado only scored three more points in the second half and their only chance of a momentum swing fell short after a Tedric Thompson interception return came up three yards short of the end zone. Colorado was no able to capitalize on the opportunity, going backward two yards in four plays and giving the ball right back to the Cardinal.

Overall it was a very tough game for the Buffaloes, simply being worn out by a bigger, stronger, faster team.

Christian McCaffrey

The hometown Heisman candidate was as advertised, showing off his wide array of ways he can impact the game. McCaffrey put down 151 yards on the ground and even threw a touchdown pass, showing he truly is America’s all-purpose all-star.
