FORT COLLINS — Colorado State picked up its 12th high school commitment for the 2023 cycle on Wednesday evening. Buom Jock, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound prospect out of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia announced his commitment via Twitter.
Jock is a multi-sport athlete, participating in basketball, football and track & field. He currently plays wide receiver and free safety on the gridiron, however, Jock is actually being recruited to play linebacker for the Rams.
I am excited to announce my commitment to Colorado State University! I would like to thank my family and all my coaches for the support. I would also like to thank @UnderDaRock1 for opening doors! Go Rams! @Adam_Pilapil @CoachBanks13 @CoachJayNorvell @CoachChadSavage pic.twitter.com/YKNyXNA9YZ

Defensive coordinator Freddie Banks has explained that his main priority on the recruiting trail is finding elite athletes and not necessarily positional experience. The thought behind the process is that you can coach up the players and teach them proper technique. What you cannot teach is size, strength and raw athleticism.
Along with Jock, the Rams are also recruiting former star wide receiver Dante Scott to play safety. He committed earlier this week.
From Jock’s Hudl film it’s apparent that he can cover a ton of ground and has good instincts. His first two highlights are both interceptions returned for touchdowns and while the returns are impressive, what stands out even more is the way he diagnoses the plays, reads the quarterback’s eyes and then breaks on the ball.
As a receiver Jock also displays that he has no fear of contact and that should translate nicely at linebacker. Instead of dropping the shoulder to create yards after the catch, he’ll just be using his skills to lay the wood in the open field. His basketball background should also be beneficial when it comes to lateral agility and general explosiveness.
In addition to CSU, Jock has posted about receiving offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Liberty, Pitt, Virginia and a variety of Ivy League schools, including Dartmouth, Penn, Harvard and Yale.
While Jock is officially the 12th prospect to announce their commitment to CSU so far, three more players are expected to post this week. We’ll keep you up to date with everything as it plays out.
