Re: Sefo

The only thing that comes to mind when I’m trying to encapsulate his whole career is this: Thank you. Thank you Sefo. You took so much on your shoulders and you owned far more criticism than you deserved and you just kept getting up, both figuratively and literally. I’m reminded of the scene in Cool Hand Luke where he’s in a fight and he simply wins the fight by always being willing to get back up until his opponent finally gives up because he realizes he can’t break him. That’s Sefo Liufau to me. He was outmatched at times and he was never the most accurate passer, but no one was going to keep him down.
Now, am I sad that we will be transitioning to Steven Montez next year? No. I’m actually very excited to see what a more prototypical pocket passer can do in this offense, but I don’t think that I’d be as excited for Montez if it wasn’t for the base that Sefo Liufau laid. He went first. He set the tone for what it takes to improve a team in college football. He gave the example to Steven that I think will set up Montez for even more success in the future. Sefo embodied the phrase that is so important to the Rise: The Pride and Tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes will not be entrusted to the time or the weak.

I’ve got to be honest. To me, the pride and tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes had been entrusted to timid and weak men in the past 10 years. I don’t want to throw anyone under the bus, but I don’t think you can even say that phrase with a straight face until this year. Sefo brought that back this year and that’s worth more than 10 wins to me. I think we’ll see a lasting impact from this year’s senior class for years to come.

So thank you Sefo Liufau, thank you.
