In the 25th edition of the BSN Denver Colorado Buffaloes podcast Will Whelan, Ryan Koenigsberg and Jake Shapiro discuss all the latest news from the current Colorado Buffaloes and Forever Buffs. The Buffs have truly gone global as athletes are making their impacts felt down under, in Europe and in the Olympics.
Headlining the show, in the second segment the guys break down the ever talked about Rocky Mountain Showdown, which will open up this year’s football season. The guys try to look at the game differently albeit get into some of the same heated discussions that they have gotten into in the past. Where Whelan brings the fire, Koenigsberg brings a bucket of water to douse him, all while Shapiro tries to steer the ship.
The boys also break down the tailgating rules which are near-and-dear to their hearts and they debate about which Pac-12 teams get under the skin of Buffs fans.
Finally, in the last segment, the cast breaks down who they think are the three most irreplaceable players on the squad.

Enjoying listening to Will get his ass kicked in this csu debate. I think he is very much missing the point. The reason we talk about csu so much is because it’s the first game every year. We are starved for football-related news all summer, so it’s natural to look towards the first week. I think about last year with Hawaii first on the schedule and the news was flowing about the Rainbow Warriors for most of the summer. I stayed up until 3 am to watch that disaster because I was so excited about it. And it wasn’t until after the UMass game that I really started gearing up for the RMS.
Will is dead wrong that the RMS is good for CU. It could be good for the Buffs if they had some sort of 2 home & 1 away agreement with csu and the games were played on campus, but the current set up (10-year contract for a neutral site game to open the year with equal profit sharing) is just a disaster. It makes us the laughing stock of the Power 5 conferences that we have such a game, AND that we can’t win it with consistency.
As for the students and fans getting riled up by the game, that’s not a good thing. Perhaps Will could explain how, if we lose to csu and people start calling for Mac to be fired, that it would be a good thing. I just don’t see it.
As for the csu fans, I have never once interacted with one that cared about their team beyond that game. Never. And I work with quite a few csu graduates. They love talking trash to me after csu beats CU and then I ask them if they watched the game, and they all say “no, I just saw the score.” I’m sure there are exceptions to the norm, but the vast majority of csu fans only get excited for that game and then zone out the rest of the season.
