In the 39th edition of the BSN Denver Colorado Buffaloes podcast Ryan Koenigsberg, Ted Chalfen and Jake Shapiro discuss all the latest news from the Colorado Buffaloes with a special guest late in the podcast.
Starting the show, the group reviewed Colorado’s homecoming win against Arizona State. They talked about Phil Lindsay’s massive day, Sefo Liufau’s redemption tour, the special teams conundrum and more.
The three get into a preview of Stanford and what it will take for the Buffs to win the Pac-12 South. Or if that’s even a legitimate goal to chase.
In the third segment, Denver Pioneers Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rodney Billups joined the show. He told the show of the progress he’s already made at his alumni entering his first season, he also talked about his time as an assistant at CU and what it’s like to work with Tad Boyle. Re: Field Rushing
I don’t particularly care about if the students rush the field, but the thing that somewhat bothered me was that a couple of players dumped the water jug on Coach Mac at the end of the game. To me, that’s something that you should save until the last game of the season. Even if you win the New Mexico Bowl, go ahead and dump the coach, but it seems like a premature celebration to dump the coach after getting to 5-2. I want the team to have the “we haven’t arrived yet” mentality, but I don’t care if the students go nuts and rush.
Side bar: I was a student during the 2006 field rush against Texas Tech, and I rushed, even though it was more or less the “Bronx Cheer” of rushes. It was half done out of relief of finally getting a win. The field rush that really frustrated me was in 2009 when we beat Texas A&M. I was also a student then and if you’ll recall, there was a half-assed, student-led effort to wear baby blue as a form of protest because we were as terrible as we were when we wore baby blue in the 70s. Which, in and of itself, is annoying and stupid, but the frustrating part was that a number of people storming the field were wearing baby blue! I thought it was incredibly hypercritical for someone to wear baby blue as a form of disgust over the team and then storm the field in celebration after they won.
Shap, you should definitely storm the field before Sean Miller whines about his player’s inability to resist punching opposing fans enough that the Pac 12 institutes a fine for storming the field as well as the court.
Rodney’s the man. I may have to start following the Pio’s now, too. I’m already looking forward to the year when CU and DU both beat csu.
If I ever make it down to the BST for a road game, I will buy you all a drink. That won’t be this Saturday as I’ll be up in the mtns, but I feel like I owe you guys one for making my Thursdays (aka Podcast day) at work so much better each week.
